Direct to Film (DTF) and Direct to Garment (DTG) are both digital printing methods for full-color designs. DTF transfers a printed film onto fabric using adhesive and heat, while DTG prints ink directly into the garment. DTF works across more fabric types, while DTG delivers a softer feel on cotton.
DTF (Direct to Film)
- Best for: Polyester, nylon, blends, and dark garments
- Process: Prints onto film, applies adhesive powder, cures, then heat-presses
- Pros: Highly versatile, vibrant colors, strong durability
- Cons: Slightly thicker feel, more production steps
DTG (Direct to Garment)
- Best for: 100% cotton and light-colored garments
- Process: Prints water-based ink directly into the fabric fibers
- Pros: Soft, breathable feel, excellent fine detail
- Cons: Limited on synthetics, can fade faster on darks
